“Cirque Du Regent”

Regent Gymnastics ~ Christmas Gala 2011


On Sunday 11th December, Regent Gymnastics held their annual Christmas Gala in the Queens Hall, Fort Regent. The spectacular circus-themed event saw the Queens Hall transformed into a big-top where over 80 gymnasts between the ages of six and fourteen showed off their circus and gymnastics skills to an enthralled audience.



The coaches and gymnasts had worked hard to put on the display which was choreographed by coach Hayley and organised by Head Coach Julia Falle. The event displayed the gymnasts talents on a variety of apparatus including trampolines, bars, vault and beam and was enjoyed by all, those watching and those taking part!

26 ~ Rainbow General Gymnastics Competition

Ninety Six young gymnasts from the age of three years old participated in the Little Monkey's and Fort Regent School of Gymnastics Rainbow Competition at Fort Regent on Saturday 26th November in front of a large crowd of spectators. 

Little Monkeys head coach Mel le Boutillier said this is the first competition for the young gymnasts to show off their skills and it has been a great achievement for the gymnasts being able to link skills together for their routines. There were some excellent performances from the young talented gymnasts who are showing great promise for the future.

All the gymnasts performed their set elements on three pieces of apparatus. The girls competed on Bars, Beam and Floor and the Boys competed on Vault/Trampette, Bar and Floor.

 

The winners of each group were presented with placing ribbons and the overall age group winners won medals as below.

20 ~ Abingdon 35th Anniversary Invitational Competition

Congratulations
to the 5 Regent Gymnasts who produced pleasing results in their last UK competition of the year. Sophie Le Boutillier, Maisie Weiss, Georgia Dodd, Shannon Webber and Rachelle Flambard, brought home 15 medals from the Abingdon 35th Anniversary Invitational Competition which was held on Sunday 20th November near Oxford.
  
In the novice junior level Sophie Le Boutillier (9) excelled on the bars and floor winning the individual apparatus gold medals and her silver medal on the vault, placed her in the overall silver medal position in the group.
In the senior novice level Maisie Weiss (11 - pictured on the left) had a great all round competition winning the individual apparatus gold medal on the floor and beam and the silver medal for her bars and vault. Her consistent performance throughout also won her the overall gold medal for this age group.
In the Level 4 junior Georgina Dodd (11) produced strong tumbling sequences in her floor routine which won her the individual apparatus gold medal. She also finished in 4th place on Bars and Vault and finished in a creditable 4th place overall.
Competing in the senior level Shannon Webber (14) performed her opening tumble on floor a ½ twisting somersault and went onto win the silver medal for  performance. She finished in overall 6th place. 
Competing In level 2 Rachelle Flambard (10) competed for the first time in competition a dynamic and powerful tucked tsukahara with a secure landing her 12.50 score winning her the gold medal. Her strong floor performance with four complex tumbling sequences won her the gold medal with a score of 11.90. She also picked up silver in the beam and bars and finished in overall 2nd place to win silver.

29-30 ~ Rachelle Flambard (10) invited to Southern Region Training
 
Regent’s young gymnast Rachelle Flambard (10) was invited to the Southern Region training in Reading on the weekend of 29th and 30th October.
 
The Regent gymnast has earned the Southern Region invite following some pleasing results in the recent in age Level 2 Southern Region Championships. 

FCJ pupil Flambard became the very first gymnast to compete at this level.
Coach Julia Falle said: This is an outstanding achievement and really good news for the sport of Gymnastics on the Island and encouraging for other gymnasts to follow in her footsteps.


24-28 ~ Fun had by all at the Half-Term Camp and Halloween Freeky Friday
  During the October Half term, the ever-popular week-long gymnastics camp was held from 9am to 1pm each day.

The participating girls trained really hard and learnt lots of new moves but they also had lots of fun, especially on the last day when a 'Friday Freaky Halloween Party' was held.
The party saw the girls dressing up in halloween costumes and winning prizes for taking part in various halloween related games!

Games played included apple bobbing, catching marshmallows on string and dressing up as mummies!

 
                                            
 
15~ Happy 30th Birthday!
Regent Gymnastics Club marked the occasion with a friendly invitational competition with a total of 85 gymnasts taking part from Abingdon Gym Club, Chamberlayne Gym Club, Flic Flac Academy, Jersey Gym Club and the hosts the Regent. The event was staged in the Queen’s Hall, Fort Regent.  
 
The competition was divided into two competitions, with rounds one and two being floor and vault and the final round three the gymnasts competed on vault, bars, beam and floor. All of the participating gymnasts enjoyed the competition immensely and the atmosphere in the arena was exciting whilst the gymnasts anxiously awaited the final results.

Round One - Floor & Vault
The youngest age group, 6-7 years (girls) was dominated by the gymnasts from Flic Flac, but Regent’s Rhea Fletcher (7) managed to secure a silver medal on vault and finished in a creditable 4th overall. Other Regent competitors were Claudia Cosgrove (4th – Vault), Ruby Mahoney (4th – Floor) and Grace Butler (9th – Vault).
 
In the boys 6-7 years age group, Jersey’s Anushan Elanco finished in 1st place (Gold) and Regent’s Joel Kempsey 2nd (Silver).
In the boys 8-9 years age group, Jersey’s gymnasts Mitchell Crockart and Tom Coleborn took 1st and 2nd place overall respectively, with Regent’s Michael Schaffrath finishing consistently to win the bronze medals for vault, floor and overall. Jersey’s John Brocken and Oisin Devitt picked up individual silver medals on floor and vault respectively.
Round Two - Floor & Vault
In the next four age groups the Regent Gymnasts has some excellent performances and some very pleasing results.
In the 8-9 years age group Matilda Le Boutillier's winning performance gained her three gold medals and the overall winning trophy. Josie Carey finished in overall 2nd place and won bronze medals on Vault and Floor. Aliyah Busenel was 3rd Overall placing 2nd on Floor. Also competing were Gabrielle Scott, Elizabeth Woodward and Phoebe Crichard.
In the 10-11 years age group it was again 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Regent with Georgia Hodgson finished in 1st place overall, 2nd on Vault (Silver) and 1st on Floor. Masie Weiss finished in 2nd place overall, 3rd on Vault and 3rd on Floor. Julia Russ placed 3rd Overall and 1st on Floor. Also competing was Jessica Dunning who finished 5th Overall.
In the 12/13 years age group, the Chamberlayne gymnasts took the first two places with Regent's Katie Davies taking 3rd place on floor to win the 3rd overall place. Siobhan Harvey finished in 4th place and won silver on vault.
In the 14+ years age group, Rachael Ollivro won 3 silvers for the overall, vault and floor and Laura Kearns finished in the bronze medal position.
Round Three - Four-Piece
In the last round of the day the gymnasts took to the full apparatus and showed off their skills on the vault, bars, beam and floor. They were divided into four levels Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite.
In the Novice 7-8 years, the competition was strong from the visiting teams but the Regent girls managed to hold their own and produced some excellent results. The most pleasing result of the day was eight year old Katie A’Court whose consistent and focused performance throughout won her the overall trophy and gold medal, with her team mate 7 year old Milly Crowder landing a superb vault to take the gold medal and finish in the overall bronze medal position. Also competing were Lucy Quirk (3rd Vault) (1st Floor), Sarah Shah (3rd Floor) and Charlotte Neale (4th Floor).
In the Novice 9-10 years, Regent’s Jemima Butler performed well throughout to finish in 3rd place overall with her steady performance on the beam winning her a further bronze medal. Other performers were Samantha Neale (3rd Bars and 5th Overall), Kiah Kuppe (2nd Vault and 6th Overall), Sophie Le Boutillier and Meg-Ann Ruderham.
The Intermediate level was dominated by the gymnasts from Abingdon who claimed all the overall trophies in each age level, but Regent’s Erin Moffett showed her authority on the vault taking the individual silver medal and finishing in a creditable 4th place overall. Also taking part for Regent were Georgia Dodd, Rhiannon Le Maistre, Harley Little and Ruby Mason.
In the Advanced 11-12 years, Gabby Morgan finished slightly ahead of her sister Jade to take the silver medal position with Jade finished in bronze medal position.
In the Advanced 13+ Years, Jasmine performed consistently throughout to win 5 bronze medals in the individual apparatus and overall position. Shannon Webber pushed into second place on the beam and finished in overall 5th place. Hollie Kempsey just finished outside of the medals finishing 4th place overall with 4th place on the bars and beam. Also competing was Claudine Ollivro.
In the Elite competition, the highest level the gymnasts could compete in, Regent’s Reachelle Flambard fought hard against India Weller from Abingdon who is the current level 2 Southern Region Champion. India was the only gymnast to perform a double somersault off the asymmetric bars. Rachelle once again performed some nice work with a solid opening tumble of a 1 ½ twisting somersault, but couldn’t quite match India scores and had to settle for a creditable silver medal place.
The medals and trophies were presented by the visiting team of judges and every gymnast received a 30th anniversary participation medal.

25 ~ Southern Region Success!
 
CONGRATULATIONS Rachel Flambard! On Sunday 25th September, she competed at 'Level 2' in the Southern Region Championships which were held in the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth. Rachel finished in a fantastic 4th place overall and won the silver medal for her vault. WELL DONE!!!
 
18 ~ Hampshire In-Age Medals
  
 
Rachelle Flambard returned from the Hampshire In-Age Levels, held on Sunday 18th September, with very impressive results and five individual medals.
 
Competing at Level 2, ten-year old Rachelle finished in overall silver medal position after winning four individual apparatus medals. Her strongest performance was on the vault where she landed two clean, dynamic vaults gaining a massive score of 11.45 and taking the gold medal.  Her consistently good performances also placed her second on floor, third on bars and third on beam.
 

This is the first time that a gymnast from Jersey has competed at this high level and is an outstanding achievement to win medals. This now puts Rachelle in good stead for the forthcoming Southern Region Championships, which take place on Sunday 25th September in Portsmouth.

Milly Crowder (7) and Sarah Shah (8) also took part in the competition gaining vast experience through competing in their first county level competition.  They both competed at level 5 which is the entry level for eight year olds into the county.  Milly  performed well displaying dynamic tumbling on the floor and performing a powerful vault to finish in 15th place. Sarah’s strength was on the beam where she showed grace and poise, placing her in 19th place.

Once again, Regent Gymnastics ran their very popular Summer Camp during August for Regent gymnasts from 6 years and over to keep up flexibility, strength and whole body conditioning over the summer holidays.

23-29 ~ Jersey Gymnasts thrive at the Jeux Des Iles

Four young Gymnasts flew the flag for Jersey in the 2011 Jeux Des Iles held in Sicily from 23rd to 29th May. Hollie Kempsey (Regent), Shannon Webber, Emily Durance and Charlotte Pollard made up the Jersey team to compete against 6 other Islands in the annual competitions including Elba, Martinique, Malta, Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily.

The girls competed in an individual all-around competition and a friendly 'mixed' team competition where gymnasts from different Islands competed together as a team.

In the Individual all-around competiton, only 3 girls from each Island were able to compete on each piece. The apparatus scores were as follows:

Vault:
Emily Durance - 11:00 (16th)
Hollie Kempsey - 10.10 (19th)
Chalotte Pollard - 9.95 (20th)
Bars:
Charlotte Pollard - 9.15 (13th)
Shannon Webber  - 4.15 (16th)
Emily Durance - 3.65 (17th)
Beam:
Charlotte Pollard – 10.35 (=12th)
Emily Durance – 10.35 (=12th)
Shannon Webber  - 8.25 (18th)

The top 2 scores from each piece were added together to form a team score giving the Jersey team a total of 75.35 and placing them 6th overall.

07 ~ Medals for Regent Gymnasts and Coaches at Lynx 25th Anniversary event!
 
The Lynx Gymnastics Centre 25th Anniversary event saw children as well as adults from seven different UK clubs take part in the festivities on Saturday 7th May. Gymnasts from the Lynx Gymnastics Centre, Aylesbury Gymnastics Academy, Abingon Gym Club, Arabian Gym Club, Bulmershe, Fareham Gym Club and Regent Gym Club marked the occasion by taking part in a unique, friendly and fun competition on tumble track, floor, vault, beam and trampette.
All of the participating gymnasts enjoyed the competition immensely with all of the Regent entrants coming away from the day with numerous medals.
In the 'Leopard' group for age 8-9, Clara Thaureux came 1st on Beam with a score of 8.4 and 2nd on Trmapet with a score of 9.2. She also competed on Vault (9.1), Tumble (9.4) and Floor (9.8) placing her 4th overall.
 
The Regent gymnasts in the 'Tiger' group did incredibly well with Matilda Le Boutillier coming 1st Overall for the 8-9 age-group, Kate Davies and Rhiannon Baker placing 1st and 2nd overall respectively for the 10-year-old age group and Finlay Matthews taking the top-spot for the boys!
 
Matilda performed beautiful routines placing her 1st on Vault (9.0), 1st on Beam (7.9), 1st on Tumble (9.0), 2nd on Trampet (9.2) and 1st on Floor (9.2). Kate and Rhiannon also executed excellent routines with Kate placing 1st on Vault (9.4) with Rhiannon close behind in 2nd place (9.3). Beam saw them again in 1st (Kate with 7.7) and 2nd places (Rhiannon with 7.5). On Tumble Rhiannon took 1st place (9.1) with Kate placing 3rd (8.8). Trampet was again a 1-2 with Kate getting 9.1 and Rhiannon 8.95. The Final piece saw Kate again in 1st place (9.4) and Rhiannon in 3rd (8.4). Finlay took 1st place on all pieces with 8.7 on Vault, 8.9 on Tumble, 8.9 on Trampet and 9.2 on Floor.
 
In the 'Lynx' group for age 8-9, Meg-Ann Ruderham and Julia Russ came 3rd and 5th overall respectively. Both girls performed well with Meg-Ann placing 2nd on Vault (9.2), 2nd on Trampet (8.7), 3rd on Floor (9.5) and also competing on Beam (7.5). Julia also took numerous medales placing 3rd on Vault (9.1), 3rd on Beam (8.1), 1st on Trampett (8.75) and 6th on Floor (9.0).
 
In the final group for the children, the 'Jaguar' group, Siobhan Harvey competed in the 11-year-old age group and placed 4th overall. She placed 3rd on the Acro beam (8.1) and 2nd on Trampet (9.4) and also competed on Vault (9.4), Gym Beam (9.3) and Floor (8.1).
 
A special mention needs to go to the Regent coaches and judges that took part in the adult 'Lion' and 'Panther' competitions. In the Lion competiton, Marie Thaureux (Regent Coach) competed in the 18-30 age-group placing 3rd on Vault (8.0), 3rd on Beam (8.1), 2nd on Tumble (9.4) and 3rd on Trampet (8.6) placing her 3rd overall in her age-group. The 30+ age-group saw sisters Melanie Le Boutillier (Regent Coach) and Stefanie Falle (Judge) competing together and against each for the first time! Both performed their skills beautifully with Stefanie just ahead of her sister and placing 1st overall in the age-group with Melanie placing 3rd overall. Stefanie placed 2nd on Vault (10.3), 1st on Beam (8.7), 1st on Tumble (9.7) and 1st on Trampett (10.0). Melanie placed 3rd on Vault (8.15), 2nd on Beam (7.1), 3rd on Tumble (9.4) and 3rd on Trampet (9.7) where she performed a beautiful front tucked somersault. Paul Bain (Regent Coach) took top spot for the boys in the 30+ Panther group placing 1st on Vault (10.6), 1st on Tumble (8.5) and 1st on Trampet (8.2).
Well done to Mel, Paul, Marie and Stef and all the boys and girls from Regent that took part!

10 ~ Great results for Regent Gym Club at Southern region Grade Finals
 
Regent Gym Club returned from the Southern Region Grades finals in Windsor on 10th April with some pleasing results.
 
In grade 11 twelve year old Claudine Ollivro landed a superb vault with a score of 11.80 to finish in 2nd place. She also achieved 6th place on floor and 8th place on vault to finish in overall 8th place.
 
Eight year old Sarah Shah competing in her first regional competition in Grade 14 was up against a strong field of 46 gymnasts and Sarah achieved a creditable 12th place in the range and conditioning with a score of 12.10 and solid performances on the bar and beam to achieve scores of 11.55 and 11.90 respectively.
 
Head coach Julia Falle said this has been a successful weekend for the Regent Gymnasts showing that their determination and hard work helped produced some excellent results. Full competition results will be posted soon!
has been a whole year since the first training clinic run by Chris who was impressed by the vast improvement the gymnasts have made in the year.
 
The basic preparation that the girls have been working on enabled him to focus on more advanced skills including somersault dismounts off bars, complex tumbles on floor and somersault vaults. A number of the gymnasts performed moves for the first time and are looking forward to practising their newfound skills in the months to come.
 
09 ~ UK Gymnastics Competition a big hit in Jersey
 
The first UK Gymnastics competition to be held in Jersey was called a roaring success by its founder and director Chris Adams. The competition was held at Fort Regent on 9th April, with over 100 gymnasts taking part. The competition was attended by local and UK clubs, with the local clubs holding their own against the visitors with Fort Regent School of Gymnastics (FRSG), Regent Gymnastics and DMGA winning numerous medals.
 
The competition was divided up into various levels and ages:

It was great to see so many young gymnasts enjoying a very successful weekend of gymnastics on the Island.
02 ~ Gold at the end of the Rainbow!
On 2nd April, over 50 gymnasts from Fort Regent School of Gymnastics took part in the 'Rainbow Competition', a general gymnastics competition for both girls and boys who train up to 2 sessions a week. Rainbow Gymnasts who struck gold are:

This competition was the first of two stages which saw the gymnasts competing on Vault, Floor and Trampette. In the Summer Term, the second stage of the Rainbow Competition will take place where the gymnasts will compete on Beam and Bars. Thank you all for taking part!
