10 ~ Regent Gymnastics Rocky Horror Christmas Gala
For the 2010 Regent Gymnastics annual Christmas Gala, sixty gymnasts and coaches donned spooky makeup and costumes to become zombies, devils, ghosts, skeletons and bats for the ‘Rocky Horror’ themed spectacular.
The end of term Christmas Show was held in the Queens Hall, Fort Regent in front of a large audience. Eerie lighting helped to set the scene before the first half of the show opened with a warm-up routine by gymnasts from the elementary, advanced and senior squads, lead by coach Lisa Luce.
Following the warm-up, head coach Julia Falle and coaches Mia Harvey and Jodie Morgan appeared as witches to dance to the catchy tune “I put a spell on you” which brought laughter and cheers to the show!!
| |
After the witches came the “Zombies” and despite a zombie’s reputation of being slow, the gymnasts dressed in black cloaks emerged to reveal a brilliant display of fast dynamic tumbling performing back flips, somersaults and twists.
Then the boys Michael Schaffrath, Matthew Bain, Charlie Lucas and Wilson Ibbet and the girls Matilda Le Boutillier, Sarah Shah, Meg-Ann Ruderham and Kiah Kuppe showed their individual floor skills before the elementary squad (Chloe Besant, Lillie Godden, Rhiannon Le Maistre, Harley Little, Ruby Mason, Tegan Parker and Libby Rothwell) presented a colourful rhythmic ribbon routine.
All of the mini squad took part in an energetic crossover trampette routine to the Batman’ theme tune. The gymnasts and coaches dressed as bats displayed various aerial jumps, rolls and handstands with bat-wings flying behind them! A final dramatic group dance routine to “Running up that hill” brought the first half of the show to a close allowing the audience a few moments to catch their breath.
| |
The show re-opened with an explosive trampette routine with ghoulishly dressed gymnasts performing amazing forward and backward somersaults. Individual boys and girls then displayed their strength in their High Bar and Asymmetric Bars routines whilst some individual girls showed their balance and control in their Beam routines.
Ghostbusters was the theme for the Intermediate boys and girls who showed off their floor skills and tumbling whilst the Ghostbusters (the boys) hunted down the white and green ghosts (the girls). Joely Crichard, Caitlin Day, Hollie Kempsey and Caitlin Day performed further individual floor routines before the skeletons and devils arrived.
The mini squad gymnasts dressed as skeletons performed a cute and catchy routine to ‘Scary Scary Skeleton’ whilst the advanced senior squad gymnasts dressed as devils used hoops as their props whilst they danced to ‘The Devil doesn’t recognise me’.
| |
A synchronised trampette routine by the Intermediate squad brought the show to a close before the floor area was transformed into a graveyard, setting the scene for the final number performed by all of the gymnasts – ‘Thriller’.
The Regent Rocky Horror Christmas Gala was a great success and the club would like to thank all of the parents and friends that helped to get the show off the ground. They would also like to thank all of the parents and friends that came to support and watch the gymnasts in this great annual display.
MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and we look forward to seeing you again in the NEW YEAR!

30-31 ~ Another successful training clinic
International Performance Coach Chris Adams returned to Jersey again this weekend to run another training clinic for Regents squad gymnasts. Over Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October, Chris worked with the gymnasts in all areas of strength, flexibility and gymnastic skills.

2-4 ~ Training Clinic with Chris Adams
International Performance Coach Chris Adams visited Jersey on 2nd July to hold a special 3-day training clinic with Regent's squad gymnasts.
Chris introduced a new training programme to the gymnasts last September during the first of his training clinics. At his second visit in November, Chris built on the improvement the gymnasts had already made by introducing key strength and flexibility skills and specific tumbling and bar techniques.
Chris was impressed with the progress the girls had made over the last few months and said that it was clear that the girls have been keeping up with their conditioning and training programme through the improvements they have made. At this training clinic, Chris concentrated on lots of new bar techniques for the girls, encouraging them to work on the metal high-bar in gloves and loops and getting more of the girls to perform handstands and giant circles around the bar.
The gymnasts and coaches all enjoyed the weekend with Chris and look forward to his next visit in September.

25-30 ~ Jeux des Iles Azores 2010
Jeux des Iles Azores 2010
THE RESULTS
The Jersey Team
JERSEY took a record breaking haul of medals at this year’s Jeux des Iles finishing with a total of 25 and sixth place overall. The 29 strong Jersey team competed against almost 1300 athletes from Azores, Canaries, Cyprus, Corfu, Corisca, Elba, Guadeloupe, Korcula, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Sardinia, Sicily and the Isle of Wight in Athletics, Basketball, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Sailing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball.
In total the Jersey team returned home with seven gold medals, ten silver, and eight bronze – 13 of these coming from swimming, 11 from athletics and one from the girls’ tennis team. The other sports all came back with credit, raising the bar on their own previous results.
Where is the Azores?
The Azores is a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,500 km (930 mi) from Lisbon and about 3,900 km (2,400 mi) from the east coast of North America.
The Monchique Islet on Flores Island, located at 31° 16’ 24” W is regarded as the westernmost point in Europe, even though from a geological standpoint the two westernmost Azorean islands (Flores and Corvo) actually lie on the North American plate.
