Regent Gymnasts Shine in Preston

Ten Regent Gymnasts returned home with fifteen medals, 5 gold’s, 6 silver and 4 bronze from the Jack Frost Invitation Competition on Sunday.

The competition brought together over 250 gymnasts and the Regent Gymnasts were up against some strong opposition with gymnasts competing from Blackpool, Mickleover, Skelmersdale, Apollo, Turton, Longridge, David Lloyd and the hosts Flic Flac.

The competition was divided into various levels of age and ability with each having a Christmas theme and the gymnasts competing on Vault, Trampette, Range & Conditioning (R&C;), Bars and Tumble.

In the Bright Stars 9 & under age group 18 gymnasts competed with Regent’s Chloe Besant performing exceptionally well in her first UK competition. Her R & C showed great strength and poise, a clean and precise performance on Bars and a superb Vault claimed her gold medal on all three pieces and an excellent second place overall. Rhiannon Le Maistre won a silver medal for her excellent performance in her R & C, also finish in 5th place on Bars and a creditable 5th place overall. Also competing was Ruby Mason who again put in a great performance finishing 5th place in R & C and 6th place overall.

In the 9 & over age group Siobhan Harvey outshone this group beating 13 other competitors to finish in 1st place overall. Her winning performances came with a superb vault, a dynamic trampette claiming her two gold medals. A confident tumbling sequence won her the silver medal and she also went on to win two bronze medals for her R&C and Bars.

In the Happy Xmas Trees younger level ten year old Joely Crichard was up against 15 strong contenders with the gymnasts from Blackpool taking the top 3 places overall. Joely showed some great height and technique in her somersault on the Trampette winning her the silver medal and she finished overall in 6th place. In the older age group Lotta Butler showed some elegance and grace throughout her competition. Her strong performance on bars managed to edge out the gymnasts from Blackpool and Flic Flac to win her the gold medal. She also claimed the silver medal for her performance in R&C. and finished in 4th place on the Vault and Trampette along with an overall 4th place.

In the next level 10 year olds Jade and Gabby Morgan competed in the Snowman level along with Ciara Lambert and Danielle Biddulph. In the younger age group Jade and Gabby Morgan both performed well and just finished outside the medals. Jade showed her strength in the Tumbling with some great height in her somersaults which placed her in 4th place and finished in joint 6th place with Gabby in the trampette. This was Gabby’s first UK competition and she also finished in a creditable 6th place in her Tumbling. Ciara was competing in the older age group along with Danielle. Ciara had a good clean performance to win silver on bars and her performance on trampette won her second silver medal and she finished in 3rd place overall against a field of 12 strong gymnasts. Danielle took 4th place in the trampette performing her somersault sequence with great technique.

Head Coach Julia Falle said it was a great competition, this is the first time we have competed in the North West of England and I am really pleased how well they all performed. Each Gymnast received a participation medal and a certificate.

Once the competition had come to an end each club was asked to perform a Christmas Group Dance. The Regent girls performed their routine in colourful costumes which was well received by the large audience.
